EZ UP TOP, BUSY ON THE BOTTOM!

When most of us think of patchwork, thoughts of our sweet little grandmothers may cross our minds. Either that or hippies. Well, there is a way to make patchwork new again. Using the right shapes and patterns and a worn pair of light wash jeans, you can create a unique pair of britches and a reason to visit Nana’s more often.

Here’s how you do it:

Assess your old flannel shirts and colored fabrics, and choose your color scheme. Cut the chosen fabrics into small shapes (triangles and thin rectangles work best) and set aside.

Map out where you want each scrap to go. Place each scrap over a ripped or normal area of your jeans to get an idea of what your finished product will look like.

Place the thread through the eye of your needle, and sew your patches onto your jeans. Be patient. This is the most tedious step. You might want to watch TV or listen to music while you do this; it could take a while.

Cut excess thread away from your patches and make sure there are no needles hanging before you pull them on.

Your new jeans will look great when you pair them with a solid top and shoes.
